the concrete painter…
simone hamann and the sculptor ulla reiter come together to explore the boundaries of their materials.
simone hamann’s works are part of an ongoing painterly investigation into color as an independent phenomenon. the paintings do not convey fixed signs or meanings, but rather open states. color is not depicted, but placed — as a luminous event, as a gentle vibration, as a quiet counterpart that seems to flow.
opposite these works are ulla reiter’s sculptural pieces and drawings of cosmic beings. her foam sculptures combine figures from modernism and mythology. the soft material allows seemingly dangerous warriors to appear gentle. proportions are shifted, individual ornaments are created and recombined.
together, the two artists form a unity that — much like the cosmic phenomenon of parhelia, or “sun dogs” — emphasizes the accidental companions of life.

in summer 2026..
simone hamann presents her works at künstlerhof hörlkam at the invitation of michaela and florian geissler.
clouds and waves become transitions.
floating turns into flowing.
form becomes rhythm.
clouds emerge from bubbles — as presence and absence.
individual elements come together, form clusters, and shift their boundaries. a quiet condensation unfolds.
waves move through space and across paper. bubbles gather, tilt, and leave traces of movement. drawing absorbs these processes and carries them further.
orders emerge and dissolve again. serial, almost textile rhythms appear. luminous colors set brief impulses without breaking the silence.
between painting, drawing, and sculpture, a shared space emerges. hamann’s works enter into dialogue with the sculptures of michaela and florian geissler, forming an interconnected structure.

transitions 01-exploring the boundaries of concrete art…
marks the beginning of an exhibition series dedicated to the transformation, relevance and future of concrete art. emerging in the 1920s, concrete art continues to represent a visual, intellectual and philosophical search for clarity and perception.
rejecting narrative content and iconographic references, concrete art unfolds its impact directly through visual experience. it is precisely this reduction that makes it universally accessible and timeless. transitions builds on this legacy while asking how concrete art continues to evolve today.
curated by artist simone hamann and gallerist robère scholz, transitions brings together a range of contemporary positions within concrete art, revealing the diversity, openness and ongoing relevance of this artistic language.
as the first edition of a travelling exhibition series, transitions 01 invites visitors to explore the dialogue between tradition and future, presenting concrete art as a living practice in constant transformation.
participating artists
wolfgang berndt, cologne
calculated structures: through complex algorithmic processes, berndt develops graphic works that become visual manifestations of the systems from which they emerge.
simone hamann, straubing
hamann’s bodies of work move through a delicate balance of colour and form. clouds transform into bubbles, strings and simultaneous—serial developments that dissolve into one another, expand beyond the picture plane and continue into space, constantly opening new perceptions for the viewer.
mary kim, munich
mary kim develops modular constructions of multicoloured, inclined structures made of wood, polypropylene, paper and vinyl. treating these tilted elements as her artistic vocabulary, she explores their compositional possibilities in wall pieces, freestanding towers and site-specific installations.
siegfried kreitner, landshut
kreitner’s machines appear as though they belong to contemporary robotics research. yet they are the exact opposite of robots: they serve no purpose and fulfil no function. his mechanical organisms exist autonomously, dependent only on electrical energy.
(after dr. julia otto, exhibition „kometen“, kunstmuseum celle, 2025)
rob r. ros, cologne
in his fortuna series, the german-croatian artist translates the results of the german national lottery into visual compositions, with each calendar week becoming part of the work’s title. strict in form and concept, the series reflects on chance, luck and fate.
