art opens spaces of consciousness — this is the idea expressed in the artist’s catalog presented alongside the exhibition. in an interview, simone hamann speaks of “levels of consciousness and worlds of imagination” that art can open up for us, making art indispensable.

this conviction also becomes the guiding principle throughout the additional exhibition spaces of the kulturforum. here, “spaces within spaces” emerge. while the entrance area introduces visitors to the theme of “bubbles” through a selection of works, the bubbles themselves are then allowed to unfold freely in the following two rooms.

the vaulted ceiling becomes a clouded sky, where “above” shifts onto the walls. in the former registry office room, spatial reference points dissolve, and the space can only be perceived as a whole. here, the paintings are not lined up neatly along the walls — they are not even rectangular. they themselves have become the circles depicted within them, floating between vaults and pillars.

it feels as if the shimmering colored dots from the concert hall above have captured us and catapulted us into a new space of consciousness.

the title of the circular works: “black holes.”
